Writing, fitness, and a dog | Philip Brewer

About three and a half weeks ago, Jackie had hip replacement surgery.

It was her second hip to be replaced—her other hip had been replaced some four years ago—so we knew pretty well what to expect, so it wasn’t quite so stressful.

Also, since she knew how successful the previous surgery had been, she was keen to get the operation done as soon as she realized it was necessary. The result of that was that Jackie was still in pretty good shape on surgery day. (The previous time there had been a period of months where she could barely walk. Recovering from months of not walking took longer than recovering from the surgery.) This time she’s already walking around pretty well.

Downside for me was that I for several weeks had to do all of Jackie’s household tasks as well as my own, which made for weeks where I got almost nothing else done except cooking, grocery shopping, washing dishes, doing the laundry, etc.

But that period is drawing to a close, and I’m getting back to doing more of my own stuff.

I had one other post a couple of days ago, which I had failed to mark as being for the newsletter, and it seems that regenerating the newsletter doesn’t pick it up, so it’s not showing up here. But if you want to read it, here’s a link: [https://www.philipbrewer.net/2025/09/28/im-not-explosive-at-all/]

Am I about to become a fitfluencer?

I’ve finally started getting invited to fitness influencer events! I got email today offering me a chance to get early access to a new line of athleisure clothing if I attend their event!

Sadly, their event is in Los Angeles. And, based on the images, their clothing line is for women. I’d look funny wearing their short skirts and tight tops for skinny girls.

Still, once I show up on one brand’s radar, surely other brands will start noticing me.

Note: I have no interest in being a fitness influencer or a brand ambassador, or getting early access to athleisure clothing. I don’t even really have any interest in free athleisure clothing, although I’m not sure I’d turn it down, because that’s just the sort of ethically ambiguous guy I am.

Pictures of me in exercise clothing, so that future firms know what they might get:

If that doesn’t make you want me wearing your athleisure clothing in my content, well, I guess you probably don’t want me wearing your athleisure clothing in my content.
